    PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

    Dear Families,

As the holiday shopping season begins, many of us are starting to think about gifts for our children. It’s a joyful time to celebrate, but also a time to make thoughtful choices about what we give.

I’d like to encourage families to pause before purchasing electronic devices including tablets, gaming systems, and smartwatches. Pediatricians continue to remind us that imaginative play—building, creating, pretending, and exploring—is essential for children’s healthy brain development, creativity, and social growth. Too much screen time, even on devices marketed as “educational,” can limit those important experiences.

If grandparents or relatives ask for gift ideas, please consider sharing this perspective with them as well. Toys that inspire creativity such as building sets, art supplies, puzzles, board games, and books, help children learn and grow in meaningful ways. Experiences, like trips to museums, classes, or family outings, can also create memories that last far longer than any gadget.

In addition, one of the best gifts we can give our children is time spent outdoors. Playing and exploring outside helps children develop confidence, physical strength, and an appreciation for nature. Whether it’s a simple walk around the neighborhood, a day at the park, or a family hike, please consider helping your child spend time outside. We're fortunate to live in beautiful Oregon with endless opportunities to explore together.

Thank you for supporting your children in ways that nurture their curiosity, imagination, and joy of discovery.

    In service to children,

    MENSAJE DEL DIRECTOR

    Estimadas familias,

  • Student Filmmakers Showcase Their Monster Talent

The assignment their teacher gave them was simple – make a short film that begins with a phone call and ends with someone hanging up. Benson first-year students Dylan Martinez-Torres and Dariel Soriano Zamora ran it all the way to a small city populated by two very big and rather iconic monsters – Godzilla and Hedora.

The result, Sorry, Wrong Number, is one of the more than 90 films entered into the annual Best of PPS Film Festival. The festival is a celebration of exceptional student filmmaking that includes a showcase at the historic Hollywood Theatre.

The fourth annual installment of the festival took place on May 21 and included a screening of 13 standout films. The films came from all over PPS and ran the gamut from Dylan and Dariel’s monster short to documentaries, film noir, and broadcast journalism.
