Hello BEH Panthers!!
It has been a strange past few weeks with the days off each week. We had not had a Monday school day in three weeks. It will be nice to have two five day weeks for the next two weeks.
In addition to the inconsistenty school schedule we have had many students experiencing illness the past few weeks and both have been heavily impacting attendance. Please help us to work on improving this for the remainder of the year, by ensuring that your students are at school consistently when they are not seriously ill. We will be continuing to reinforce attendance through pop-up incentives and individual family contacts to provide support as needed.
We started this week with an assembly for 3rd-5th grades to introduce a writing challenge from Jerami Grant's Hour Generation Foundation and then we will be ending the week with a field trip for 3rd-5th grades to the Portland Art Museum.
See below to learn more about upcoming events and info for the week(s) ahead:

Hour Generation Foundation Essay Challenge:
The Hour Generation Foundation presented a Write the Power challenge for our students and provided them each with a book to read and the directions for them to write their essay based on prompts from the book. This is an optional assignment that will need to be completed as "homework" but will have big prizes for those that write the best essays at each grade level and Jerami Grant from the Portland Trailblazers will be reviewing them and plans to join us for the celebration. All essays are due by March 10th to provide students time to read the book and write the essay.

Looking for more Amazing Library Volunteers:
The library needs volunteers who are willing to commit to volunteering at least once a week. It doesn’t have to be the same day every week. There are big jobs that could use some willing hands. We have labels that need to be changed, books that need repairing, signs to put on display, shelves that need reorganizing, books that need to be covered, and a library that needs some sprucing. If any of these sound interesting, please contact Mrs. McKay and Ms. Jenn through ParentSquare or email. Mrs. McKay will be available to train volunteers on Friday mornings, 8:30 am-10 am, or after school on Thursdays and Fridays.

The Great Library Book Hunt:
We are having a schoolwide hunt for lost books. Currently, there are 1800 lost books. We are encouraging students to look for them all over the school and at home. The rewards will be schoolwide, and the students will be voting on them next week. For every 450 books returned, they will get a reward. With each increment, the reward gets bigger. Please support your student in looking at home, and we will support them in looking here.

Free Girls Softball Opportunity:
We are excited to tell you about an upcoming softball opportunity for girls! This winter, Extra Innings is partnering with Clark College Softball to offer FREE GIRLS SOFTBALL CLINICS - for girls (and female-identifying youth) ages 7-12 years old.
We have loved seeing lots of girls participating in our coed baseball league the past two summers, and we are hoping to expand our SOFTBALL OPPORTUNITIES for girls in 2026.
The softball clinics are for girls who are interested in learning fundamental softball skills. NO equipment necessary, NO previous experience necessary, and NO COST for youth participants. All clinics will be led by Clark College Softball players and held at the Extra Innings Indoor Training Facility in North Portland. These clinics will be high energy and FUN - a great way to stay active this winter! See this flyer for more details and registration link.
