Lucy Berkley (she/her) -Office Admin

Hello Rieke!

I'm Lucy, your full time Front Office Admin. Feel free to call me Lucy, or Miss Lucy if you're feeling fancy. This is my second year working at Rieke, but I've been a Rieke parent for the last 9 years (this is my last year with a kid here, sniff). I'm excited to learn more together this year and have some fun while we're at it.

Outside of Rieke, I help support my husband's art business, raise our two awesome kids, and play fetch with our dog, Detective Wizard Jones (Jones for short.) I also love fostering dogs, going on road trips, and obsessively doing the crossword puzzle.

It's very important to me that every student, parent, and community member feels welcomed and included here. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions big or small. I love to help!

Ian Johnstone-School Counselor

I believe every student can learn to think critically, and display compassion towards others. This learning can take place if schools insure students consistently have their voice heard, their strengths celebrated, and their needs addressed. I set high standards for all my students, and aspire to help them achieve those standards.
I know Oregon hasn’t historically been the most inclusive place to live. Unfortunately, this diminishes our community’s ability to embrace multiple perspectives. I aim to make Portland Public Schools and our city in general an environment in which all people are included, valued, and successful. In specific, I would like to see traditionally marginalized students in my care achieve at the level of their more privileged peers. I also hope to instill a culture of reverence towards reading and independent thought. If all members of our community believe in themselves, enjoy learning, and take a scientific approach to answering life’s questions, there is no limit to the heights we can collectively achieve.

Tessalie Schulte-Instructional Coach

Hello my name is Tessalie Schulte “Ms. Schulte”.  I have been teaching and learning in Portland Public for over 20 years. I started my career in PPS as a Substitute Teacher in Pre-K through 12th grade.  I am grateful that I was able to have the experience of seeing many classes across grade levels throughout our diverse district.  I went on to teach 5th and 6th grade at Rigler and then 5th grade at Forest Park.  I served as a Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) in Talent and Gifted Education and for the last six years as a TOSA in Educator Pathways.  When I learned of the opportunity to be an Instructional Coach at Rieke I was enthusiastically interested in the position.  I was fortunate enough to spend a few weeks last spring at Rieke.  It was a joyful experience seeing students and their work, meeting the dynamic and talented staff, and feeling the positive energy of the community.

I live in the community myself and my son (now a teacher) is an Ida B. Wells grad.  When I am not working I enjoy spending time with friends, gardening, outdoor explorations, reading, writing, music, art, and all things food related.  I have always been curious and have a passion for learning.  I am so excited to join the Rieke team!
