    Writing Resources and Information:

    Students periodically provide a response to a writing prompt.  These are called work samples.  Their work is then scored using the State Writing Scoring Guide.  A link to the scoring guide: http://www.ode.state.or.us/wma/teachlearn/testing/scoring/guides/wriscorguide_eng_1011.pdf

    The State also has a student version of the scoring guide which uses simpler language: http://www.ode.state.or.us/teachlearn/testing/scoring/guides/grade4_condensed.pdf

    Students in third grade are expected to score 3's or better in Ideas, Organization, Sentence Fluency, and Conventions.  Beginning in fourth grade students are expected to score 4's or better in the same areas.  Voice and word choice are scored, but they do not count toward meeting the standard.  Your child's best effort is recorded by the teacher at the end of each year.
