Meredith Gilchrist, K x 6 Counselor
Hello! I am Meredith (she/her), MLC Kx6 school counselor. I cannot imagine a life without art (before I became a school counselor I was a toy, clothing, and graphic designer). I believe in the healing power of art and I hope to share my love of creativity with your student(s). As a school counselor, creating strong and healthy relationships is a primary goal of mine. My hope for my time at MLC is that you and your student(s) feel comfortable and safe reaching out to me.
I grew up in Minnesota and Ohio but have lived in SW Portland for over fifteen years. I have two children who are also PPS students at Ida B. Wells High School. I’m also a mom to a sassy dog named Lucy Anne and a sweet cat named Seymour. When I am not hanging with my family or playing with my pets I enjoy reading (all genres!), photography, drawing & painting, board games, movies, playing tennis, taking walks, traveling, and laughing with friends and family.

Gretchen Benner, 7 - 12 Counselor
I am Gretchen Benner (she/her and go by Benner), school counselor primarily for grades 7-12. After teaching high school English for a couple of decades, I went back to school to become a counselor to help support students in a different way, and I’m very happy with my decision. I aim to support students with academic, college/career, and personal growth and development. When not at work, I take great joy in gardening, reading, being outside in general, and building community with my family, friends, and neighbors.
