Construction: Interior Design & Architecture
Construction 1-2
This is a project-based course that focuses on observing and exploring the built environment around us. We will investigate many facets of the architectural process and provide an understanding of the steps and elements involved in designing thoughtful and relevant interior experiences. Projects will provide an introduction to the professional processes of space planning, furniture design, fixture and material selection, and construction techniques.
Construction 3-4
This intermediate level project-based course is a continuation of the 1-2 curriculum giving students the opportunity to delve deeper into the world of design and develop their personal aesthetic and professional skill sets. We will further investigate many facets of the architectural process and provide an understanding of the steps and elements involved in designing thoughtful and relevant interior experiences.
Construction 5-6 (Interior Design and Architecture)
This advanced level project-based studio course builds upon the previous introduction and intermediate curricula. We will undertake a year-long design build project with actual clients in place. Students will learn more advanced hand and power tools throughout the course. Class sessions are primarily self-directed and include hands-on activities, group discussion, demonstrations, and slide presentations to reinforce the key ideas. Greater topics covered include, designing for clients in mind, design for production, contract writing, working with production vendors, career path opportunities. Construction Technology 1-2
This course provides a hands-on introduction to the construction trades, emphasizing both traditional and modern fabrication techniques. Students learn the fundamentals of woodworking, safe tool usage, and project-based construction while exploring advanced methods like 3D printing, laser cutting, and computer-aided design (CAD). Building on Lincoln High School’s construction department, this class integrates innovative technologies with standard construction practices, fostering creativity and technical expertise. Students gain experience in blueprint reading, teamwork, and problem-solving, preparing them for careers in the skilled trades or further study in construction and design fields.
